Although airfare is more expensive then a ferry, it is quite a bit quicker. This allows the traveler more time to relax in the warm waters of Waikiki or quest for the elusive Menehune. Return trips can generally be booked within the same day if necessary, for travelers who just need to hop over for a coral reef diving excursion.

Nobody wants to blow $200 on airfare to an island for a tour that isn't that great to begin with. One of the better airlines in the world, not just Hawaii, is Hawaiian Airlines. Consumer Reports rarely get written about great airlines without a nod to this Hawaiian business. There should be no reason for a traveler to avoid this beyond cost. Then again, if cost is a consideration, a ferry might be a better choice.
