Oahu Hawaii
Known as "The Gathering Place", Oahu is a fantastically beautiful island of Hawaii. It is home to the state capital, famous beaches, Pearl Harbor, and more. No matter where a visitor travels during their Oahu stay, they are sure to enjoy the experience. From beautiful bays to pineapple plantations, Oahu affects large numbers of travelers every year.
History
The island was officially the location of the capital of Hawaii after King Kamehameha III moved it there from Lahaina, Maui in 1845. Their royal palace would be built by other members of the family, but to this day it still stands. This makes the royal palace of the Kamehamehas as the only royal palace on American soil. It is an interesting place to visit, because travelers can learn a lot of nifty tidbits of information. Like how the Iolani Palace had electricity and functional telephones long before the White House.
Pearl Harbor
December 7th, 1941 was the morning that many will remember in infamy, as the opening of battle of World War 2 for the United States. This surprise attack by Japan was a strike at the Pearl Harbor navy base. Over 2,000 military and civilians were killed, with over 1,100 wounded in the attacks. Germany and Italy would soon declare war with the United States after this, cementing the role of the nation in World War II.
Beautiful Bays
Many travelers take the essential holiday vacation on the island of Oahu by visiting the relaxing beaches. Hanuma Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The name literally translates to "curved bay" and is so popular that it is beginning to suffer from overuse. Regardless, the bay is still popular for the large amount of "honu" or sea turtles that swim in the area. Park officials try to claim that there are few turtles now due to harassment of tourists, but there are actually more than ever, with even more swimming close to the beaches.
